From 1st January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the EU. We understand that applicants and students from EU countries may have concerns around the implications of this and how it affects their ability to study in the UK.

The University is dedicated to ensuring that applicants and students have as much information as possible about changes that will affect them and this page will be regularly updated as more information is made available through official channels.

EU Settlement Scheme

Any applicant or student who is an EU National and is resident in the UK before 11pm on 31st December 2020 is strongly advised to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme. This provides pre-settled status for a period of up to 5 years which can then be converted to settled status once residency requirements are met. This status ensures that current permissions to be in the UK are retained. It is free to apply for and further details can be found on the . 

Study Visas

Any applicant or student, who is an EU National, (with the exception of those from the Republic of Ireland) entering the UK from 1st January 2021 will be required to obtain a visa which permits them to study, in line with other International Students.

For a course of study over 6 months, a Student Visa is required which must be applied for in advance. The University will issue applicants with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is required for Student Visa applications, once all conditions for entry have been met. For study periods below 6 months, students can enter the UK on a Visitor visa. Further details can be found on our International visa webpage.

Fee Information

It has been confirmed that EU, EEA and Swiss Nationals will no longer be eligible for home fee status for courses starting from August 2021. Details of the Overseas fees payable by students can be found in our Fees and Charges Brochure.

It is not yet clear whether there are any concessions around fee status for those resident in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme.
